NKS Solar One’s Floating Solar Project in Laguna to Create Over 1,000 Local Jobs with Major Environmental Impact

NKS Solar One, Inc. is set to bring a significant economic boost to Laguna, with over 1,000 jobs expected to be generated through its groundbreaking 250 MWp floating solar project on Lake Caliraya and Lake Lumot. This project, a collaborative effort between NKS Energy Utilities and Blueleaf Energy Philippines, has been awarded green lane status by the Philippine Board of Investments (BOI), fast-tracking its development as a priority investment under Executive Order No. 18.

The solar project will create diverse employment opportunities across the region, spanning roles in construction, engineering, environmental management, and community outreach. These jobs will support not only technical operations but also involve local communities in social and environmental initiatives, with the reforestation of the Caliraya-Lumot Watershed as a key focus.

Andre Pablo Fausto III, President of NKS Solar One, emphasized the project’s dual impact on local employment and sustainability: “This project aligns with the national government’s goal to foster a sustainable energy future and directly supports the Laguna community. By generating over 1,000 jobs, we’re not only strengthening the economy but also building a skilled workforce ready to lead the future of renewable energy.”

Alongside job creation, NKS Solar One and the National Power Corporation (NPC) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) last October 16, 2024 to launch a watershed reforestation initiative in Laguna. The program now focusing on reforesting a 3-hectare area in the Caliraya-Lumot Watershed, providing additional jobs for locals involved in planting and maintaining native trees. This Adopt-A-Watershed initiative, held at Macquarie Group’s Manila office as part of its Foundation Week, underscores a shared commitment to protecting Laguna’s environment while generating employment.

“This initiative reflects our dedication to building environmental resilience and addressing climate change,” said NPC President Fernando Martin Roxas. “The jobs created through this partnership are essential not only for economic growth but also for long-term ecological preservation.”

As construction begins later in 2024, the floating solar project will tap into local talent and expand Laguna’s workforce, helping the province become a key player in the Philippines’ renewable energy sector. With its strong emphasis on local job creation and environmental stewardship, NKS Solar One is expected to leave a lasting positive impact on Laguna’s communities and economy.
