Justice After 22 Years: Two Regional Most Wanted Arrested for 2003 Cop Slay in Laguna

Laguna — Two individuals listed as regional-level Most Wanted Persons were arrested in separate manhunt operations carried out by Santa Cruz police on Monday, June 24, 2025.

Laguna Police Acting Provincial Director, PCOL Ricardo I. Dalmacia, identified the suspects as alias Rey and alias Pogpog, both residents of Nagcarlan, Laguna.

According to a report by the Santa Cruz Municipal Police Station, led by officer-in-charge PLTCOL Alexander S. Alvarez, the first operation resulted in the arrest of alias Rey at around 12:23 PM in Barangay Calumpang, Nagcarlan, Laguna. A few hours later, at approximately 2:59 PM, alias Pogpog was apprehended in Barangay Poblacion III, Santa Cruz, Laguna.

Based on a warrant of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court, Fourth Judicial Region, Branch 28, dated February 24, 2003, and signed by Hon. Florencio S. Arellano, the suspects are facing charges of Murder, with no bail recommended.

Investigations revealed that both suspects were allegedly involved in the killing of a police officer on January 1, 2003, in Santa Cruz, Laguna.

“With their arrest, justice can finally be served for the victim and his family. This proves that no matter how long you hide, the law will catch up with you,” said PCOL Dalmacia in a statement.

Authorities assured that efforts to locate and apprehend fugitives will continue as part of the Philippine National Police’s commitment to peace and justice.
