SANTA CRUZ, LAGUNA — Laguna Board Member Lorenzo “Boy” Zuñiga Jr. went to the Office of the Ombudsman on Monday, September 28, 2026, to file a complaint against Laguna Governor Sol Aragones over alleged irregularities involving the implementation of a financial assistance and review program in the province.

The complaint reportedly includes allegations concerning the distribution of P15,500 in assistance to beneficiaries, including claims that some applicants allegedly presented fake diplomas to qualify for the program.

Zuñiga defended his move to seek documents related to the program, particularly those involving public funds and matters that could affect the Board’s deliberations.

“Kailan naging kasalanan ng isang bokal ang paghingi ng mga public documents upang kanyang pag aralan?”

“Karapatan ng isang bokal ang humingi ng dokumento na imbued with public interest upang alam nya ang basehan ng kanyang pag boto.”

“Karapatan din ng isang bokal humingi ng mga public documents lalo nat me kinalaman sa budget sapagkat isa rin syang taxpayer.”


The complaint stems from issues surrounding a free review program for aspiring teachers, criminology graduates and civil service examinees, according to the governor’s statement.

Aragones, meanwhile, criticized the circulation of the complaint on social media before her office had received an official copy from the Ombudsman.

She described the complaint as political in nature and said it was intended to damage her reputation.

“Nakakalungkot na sa halip na ituon ang pansin sa paglilingkod, inuuna pa ang ganitong uri ng pamumulitika,” pahayag ni Aragones.

The governor also emphasized her commitment to accountability and integrity in public service.

“Kailanman ay hindi natin isasakripisyo ang ating integridad at pananagutan sa pampublikong paglilingkod.”

As of Monday, the Governor’s Office said it had yet to receive the formal copy of the complaint. Aragones’ legal team is reportedly waiting for the official documents so they can review and respond to the allegations through the proper legal process.

The governor also assured the public that the provincial government’s delivery of services and implementation of programs would continue without disruption or delay.
