CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal – In a significant step towards improving education
infrastructure in the far-flung areas of the province, the GMA Kapuso Foundation, Inc. together with its partners began the construction of a new school building in Burdeos, Quezon on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

The project at Tulan Elementary School officially commenced with the signing
of a Memorandum of Agreement and groundbreaking ceremony which was led by Ms. Maria Cristina Dungca, the representative of GMAKFI’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ms. Rikki Escudero-Catibog, together with 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong, 202nd Infantry Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Cerilo C Balaoro Jr., representatives from the 564th Engineering Construction Battalion, Burdeos Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Gina P. Gonzales, and Department of Education led by Public Schools District Supervisor, Dr. Leonora T. Mopera.

The current project comes after the inauguration of another school building project at Binibitinan Elementary School in Polillo last August 17. Among the schools in Polillo, the Tulan Elementary School was also chosen as one of GMAFKI program beneficiaries to address the school’s shortage of classrooms. Maj. Gen. Capulong expressed his appreciation for GMAKFI’s continued partnership with the Philippine Army in pursuing corporate social responsibility projects in Quezon.

He also encouraged the parents and teachers of the school to take care of the
new building once it’s completed and emphasized the project’s significance in
providing not only a better education facility but also hope for a better future for the youth, as it plays a vital role in shaping young citizens’ character and instilling a love for their country and fellow citizens.

Meanwhile, Ms. Dungca assured the Aluyonp community that the school
building would be constructed to withstand typhoons that affect the area. She also extended her gratitude to other sponsoring entities including Manila Water Foundation, SANITEC, Davies, Eagle Cement, Yale, Hanabishi, and Mariwasa.

The construction of the two-classroom Kapuso-Type school building stands as
a testament to the commitment of GMAKFI, the Philippine Army, and local
stakeholders to enhance education opportunities for the youth of Burdeos, Quezon, and contribute to their brighter future. /Edjun Mariposque/
